What Does Horse Year Energy Mean for Your Growth?

Updated: Jan 15

From Shedding to Striding: A Little Woo and a Lot of Wisdom

I'm not the kind of person who puts much stock in the zodiac, Chinese or otherwise. I don't map my life or my business by their predictions. However, I sometimes find it fun and interesting to see what they say. Paying attention to the zodiac is a habit I picked up from my mother, Veda. She believed in the energy of the stars and other mysteries. Though some found her a bit too "woo," she knew there was more to life than meets the eye. Her curiosity has been passed down to me.

So, I pay attention and then go about my business. But occasionally, the energy described by the zodiac seems so accurate that even my practical, neuroscience-loving brain tilts its head and says, "OK, that's strangely accurate." That's when I channel my inner Veda and follow along.

The Year of the Horse: A Time for Change

In February 2026, the Chinese Zodiac shifts from the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Horse. This is the year that Danielle, and I bring NeuroSomatic Coaching to life. Coincidence? Hmm...

For me, this feels like a significant moment.

The Snake asks us to shed, release, reassess, and retreat.

The Horse encourages us to move forward, lead, expand, and trust our own momentum.

Tell me that doesn't resonate with what many of us have been navigating: personally, professionally, and collectively.

While I won't rearrange the pastures based on zodiac charts, I am paying attention. Whether you believe in the mystical side or not, sometimes the symbolic shift gives language to what we're already feeling deep inside. It makes us pay attention.

We're ready to move.

Ready to step forward.

Ready to run with what is true.

For me, this energy resonates throughout my work, whether I'm guiding teams through leadership or welcoming a new wave of NeuroSomatic Coaching trainees who feel called to step into their next chapter.

The Year of the Snake was about clearing out.

The Year of the Horse is about stepping boldly forward.

Woo-woo or not, I'm in.

What Horses Teach Us About Momentum

A while back, I walked into the pasture. The sun was low in the sky, just coming up. The horses were in that half-awake state, soft eyes, slow breath, the equine version of "Don't talk to me until I've had my hay."

I expected the usual sleepy saunter as they saw me, but that’s not what I got. Pogo lifted her head, flicked an ear, and suddenly the entire herd surged forward at once, smooth, synchronized, effortless. There was no drama. No second-guessing. No "Let me check my calendar and get back to you." Just movement.

As they thundered past me, I had that unmistakable moment of recognition, the kind that feels almost cosmic. It reminds me of Veda. There’s more to this than I can see.

This is Horse energy.

And this is precisely what 2026 is asking of us.

Not frantic.

Not pushing.

Not overthinking and creating a 27-step plan.

Just clarity.

Direction.

Movement.

Horses don’t wait for the perfect moment. They feel the shift, read the field, and respond as a herd. If you've ever stood in a pasture when a group of horses decides to move, you know. You can feel that choice in your body.

It's contagious.

It's invigorating.

And it's a reminder that forward motion doesn't have to be complicated. It just has to be true.

As I watched them settle into a steady rhythm, I reflected on the work I've done this year and the people I've worked with. We’ve all been untangling old patterns, reevaluating direction, and shedding limiting beliefs or roles that no longer fit. We've been doing Snake work.

But now? The herd is moving!

Whether you're stepping into a leadership role with more authenticity, exploring what it might look like to guide others through somatic and equine-assisted work, or simply finding your way back to your own intuition, the invitation of the horse is the same.

It is time to trust what you know.

And move!

Riding Into What's Next

So whether you’re a full believer in zodiac energy or just here for the metaphors, the invitation is the same:

Notice what’s shifting.

Trust what’s unfolding.

And let yourself move with it.

You don’t have to sprint.

You don’t have to have every detail figured out.

You just have to take the next honest step, the one your nervous system can hold, the one your body says yes to, the one that feels like it’s carrying you toward something more aligned.

The Year of the Horse is about partnership, presence, and forward motion. Around here, we know a thing or two about that.

Whether you’re exploring how horses can transform your team’s communication and cohesion through Flying Changes, or feeling the pull to deepen your skillset and step NeuroSomatic Coaching, you’re stepping into a season that supports movement, clarity, and growth.

Here’s to a year of braver choices, grounded action, and momentum that feels both powerful and sustainable.

Ride into it.

Journal Prompts for Reflection

As we transition from Snake to Horse, consider these journal prompts:

  1. What have you been able to shed, release, or reassess in 2025? Is there anything you have left to clear out?

  2. In which ways do you feel the pull to move forward, lead, expand, and trust your own momentum? What is holding you back?

In Rhythm With the Herd,

Roz Tyburski

P.S.

If all this talk about horse energy has you feeling a spark, a tug toward movement, clarity, or change; trust that. You don't have to know the destination. You just have to be willing to take the next aligned step.

I'll meet you there.

If your team is ready for a reset, more cohesion, clearer communication, and leadership that feels embodied instead of forced, let’s design a custom equine-assisted team experience.

What is a Flying Change?

Known as a flying lead change, it is a high level move in horsemanship when a horse, mid-flight changes their lead leg in the canter or lope from right to left, or vice versa.  It requires a great deal of balance and equilibrium, openness to a new way of moving, willingness to suspend an old pattern and pick up a new one while continuing to move forward, a quiet mind, an open heart, and faith in one's own ability.
